Sex Offender Registry (HB 920) House Bill 920 changes the definition of ?offense? in ? 63.2-1719 in the Code of Virginia to include convictions that result in the requirement to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry or any similar registry in any other state. This legislation prohibits sex offenders from being employed by or operating a child welfare agency. It is recommended but not required that providers search the Virginia Sex Offender Registry to determine if an individual is listed on this registry, and print out the results of the search. The link to this free search is:; click on the left hand panel `Search the Sex Offender Registry?. The list of crimes that convictions of which require registration in the Sex Offender Registry is found at: Fingerprint Checks (HB 1570, SB1168, budget bill) Fingerprint checks will be required next year. All employees, volunteers, applicants, providers, and house hold members in licensed, registered, and regulated child care programs must undergo a fingerprint background check by July 1, 2017. (HB1570 and SB1169 2015, budget bill) All individuals required to have a background check must submit to a fingerprint check. Further details about this process will be provided next year.

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 11:43am to 1:43. The children were observed eating lunch and playing with toys. The children bring lunch from home. The center is closed for the summer and is open for the next two weeks for summer camp. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection. Additionally, when appropriate the inspector interacted with children in each classroom. All classrooms being utilized for camp and playgrounds were inspected today. The facility does not provide transportation. Three children?s records and one employee record were reviewed during this inspection. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 5/9/2016 (center closed June & July) Last shelter-in-place drill: 5/3/2016 Last fire inspection: 3/4/2016 Last health inspection: 10/23/2015 Total enrollment today: 27 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Three year olds ?13:2 (plus one volunteer) Four-Five year olds?14:2 (plus one volunteer) The violations from previous inspections were checked for corrections. Description: Based on observation on 8/24/2016, the center did not ensure that cleaning materials were kept in a locked place. EVIDENCE: An locked cabinet in the 3's classroom near the door contained bottles of cleaning supplies. The cabinet is high and out of the reach of children. Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Plan of Correction: Will have cabinet locked today.
