An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 10:17 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. There were twenty-six children in care with eight teachers working directly with them. There were also two floaters working as needed with the children. Two children's records were reviewed. The record for one teacher was reviewed. The children were observed using the leap pads to learn their alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, sounds, matching and development of writing skills, during hand washing and toileting, having lunch while listening to piano music, practicing good manners while introducing themselves to the licensing inspector.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on inspection the facility failed to have a working foot operated disposal can for diapers in one classroom. Evidence: 1. On 09/30/2016 the licensing inspector attempted to lift the lid on the foot operated disposal can in room #1 and it did not work. 2. On 09/30/2016 staff #1 confirmed the foot operated disposal can in room #1 did not work. Plan of Correction: We will be able to have a working foot operated disposal can within fifteen days.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-C Description: Based on inspection and interview the facility did not have written parent authorization for the use of diaper ointment or cream or a record that includes the child's name, date of use, frequency of application and any adverse reactions for one child in care. Evidence: 1. On 09/30/2016 the licensing inspector reviewed a tube of Eucerin cream for child #2. There was no written parent authorization and no record of application by staff. 2. On 09/30/2016 staff #1 verified the Eucerin cream had been applied by a staff person and confirmed there was no written parent authorization. Plan of Correction: We located the forms on-line that we needed and will implement their use immediately.
