22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:00am-10:30am. Upon arrival there were 54 children in care with 12 staff present. Children were observed exiting the building and boarded the center's van. Children in the building were observed on the playground and dancing. Infants were observed playing in bouncers, playing in the floor and being fed. A sample of 2 staff records were reviewed in addition to 4 medications. The fire alarm was being tested during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: Children were observe outside riding bikes. There was a bike on the ground that had a missing end cap exposing rusted metal and a rough edge. Plan of Correction: The director will temporarily placed duct tape over the handle and will order a new one.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: In the 2 year-old room the key to the supply closet was in the key hole. There was a bottle of bleach spray in the closet. Plan of Correction: Staff will no longer leave the keys in the keyhole, but will put them in a place that is not accessible to children.
