- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included documentation of a plan to keep the resilient surface at an adequate level in fall zones and the area on the platform of the outdoor "stair" climber.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:20 am - 12:10 pm. There were 20 children present with 4 direct staff. I observed children busy cutting and pasting witch faces in the art room; involved in dramatic play; and at work building a complex racing track of different size blocks and manipulative materials. I also observed snack and discussions about Halloween. Interest-based classrooms offered a wide variety of appealing activities and materials for the children. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: During today's inspection, some areas and equipment of the center were observed to not be maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: There was an area observed on the wooden deck that had a splintery area; a board coming away from the support and two protruding nails. A small gate between the back of the house and the fence was coming away from the support, leaving an exposed nail. Plan of Correction: This will be taken care of this weekend or next weekend.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: During today's inspection, the area under a piece of playground equipment had resilient surfacing that did not comply with minimum safety standards. Evidence: Under the tire swing, there were areas of bare surfacing observed in the fall zone today where resilient surfacing was not adequate in depth. Plan of Correction: Staff have started to sweep the resilient surface under swings; a larger amount will be placed within 10 days.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-430-C Description: During today's inspection, the swing areas were observed not to have S-hook hardware that met requirements. Evidence: The width of the spacing between the S-hooks on the tire and individual swings were not closed small enough to fit a penny through. Plan of Correction: This will be tightened.
A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.
The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
