- Technical Assistance:
The 2 year-old playground was discussed with the program director. A new composite play structure was recently placed on the 2 year-old play space. It is under sand that was built up to about a 16 inches high. On one side of the play area past the border is concrete. Ensuring that children do not trip from the play area to the concrete was discussed.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted. Upon arrival there were 109 children in care with 23 staff present. A sample of 8 new staff and 4 children's records were reviewed in addition to 5 medications. Children were observed on the playground, and finishing an story time activity.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all areas and equipment of the center, were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: In the long hallway there was a book shelf that was about 7 feet tall. the screws that once mounted it to the wall were loose and were seperated from the dry wall, posing a tipping hazard. Plan of Correction: The director will have maintenance reattach the shelf to the wall with an anchor and ensure it is secured.
