22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conduced today 12/5/2016. The inspector arrived at 8:30 A.M. and departed the program at 12 P.M. There were one hundred five children present with twenty-five direct care staff members. During the inspection all eleven classrooms were observed, lunch time was observed, infant care was observed, diapering was observed, hand washing was observed and all previous violations were reviewed. Discussion with the director about: bouncy seat in the Little Lamb I room that the material was starting to deteriorate and needs to be discarded. The chemicals for mass diaper changes in the toddlers and two year old room should be placed in a manner that is not accessible to toddler with a step.

Description: Based on observation and interviews with staff, the center failed to ensure that each infant was provided a crib for designated rest period. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed seven infants in care in the Little Lambs III classroom with five cribs. Eight infants are enrolled in the classroom. One of the eight children is 12 months of age and is able to sleep on a cot or rest mat. Infants # 1 and 2 did not have a crib assigned to them and were observed sleeping in bouncers or swings. Verified through interviews with staff the infants # 1 and 2 did not have an assigned crib.

Plan of Correction: Infants # 1 and 2 have been moved to cribs.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: Based on observation of the infant room, the center failed to ensure that all hands were washed according to the requirements. Evidence: Based on observation in the Red Bear I two children's hands were not washed after diaper changes.

Plan of Correction: PD met with staff to discuss diapering and hand washing. PD will monitor diapering daily to endure all hands are washed.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all food brought from home was labeled and dated. Evidence: 1. The inspector found that a container of food in the Little Lambs III refrigerator that did not have a date on a food container for child # 1 that was brought from home.

Plan of Correction: PD met with all infant staff to reiterate labeling of all food, bottles, etc. A communication/reminder was also sent to parents.
