An unannounced monitoring visit was conducted today beginning at 7:15am. 29 children were directly supervised by 4 adults. Staff to child ratios were in compliance. The physical space, first aid kit, emergency policies, evacuation drill records, injury reports and emergency contacts for staff were reviewed. Medications were also reviewed. The space was clean, well organized and contained an abundance of supplies and age appropriate materials. The children were observed running in the gym, playing games, reading, listening to music and interacting with the staff. The required documents were posted. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on medication review, the center did not adhere to their medication policies and procedures. Evidence: A medication for Child 1 was observed with an expiration date of October 2016 and was maintained on site. Based on medication review, medication on site is not consistent with medication listed on written authorization form. Evidence: The written medication authorization for Child 2 listed Benedryl but the medication observed on site was a generic children's allergy medication. Plan of Correction: Review medication policies and procedures with staff. Notified parent. Parent will bring a new Epipen for child. Notified parent. Parent will bring Benedryl, so authorization form will match or make correction on authorization form.
