New staff that do not have a completed Criminal History Record Check are to remain in direct supervision of a staff member with a completed Criminal History Record Check. When you qualify a staff member as program leader under the 24 hours of training, please ensure 6 months of programmatic experience is clearly documented.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on January 30, 2017 from approximately 1:30 pm to 3:15 pm. Three staff were present with twenty-seven children. Additional staff were on site for administrative duties. Children were observed during naptime. Licensing Inspector reviewed standards related to supervision, activities, equipment, supplies, nutrition, special feedings, emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place drill documentation, fire and health inspection reports, liability insurance coverage documentation, children & staff records, emergency supplies and required postings. Violations were reviewed with and verified by center director during the exit interview conducted on this date.
Standard #: 63.2-1720-F Description: Based on review and observation, facility did not ensure staff who do not have a complete criminal history check work under the direct supervision of another staff who has a completed satisfactory background check. Evidence: On January 30, 2017, staff #3 (start date January 10, 2017) was observed working alone in a classroom with children. The individual does not have a complete criminal history check. Plan of Correction: The staff will not work alone in the class until the criminal history check is received back from the state police.
