An exit interview was conducted with the owner and director to discuss the results of today's inspection.
An announced initial inspection was conducted today, February 9, 2017 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards for possible licensure. The inspection was initiated at 1:40pm and concluded at 5:15pm. Although all standards were reviewed many could not be determined. The center had the required postings displayed on the wall upon entering the building and in children's classrooms. Center first aid kits and emergency supplies were inspected with the required supplies found. All classrooms, cafeteria, medical/illness room, common areas, and playgrounds were inspected with no hazards found and equipment in operable condition. Children's books, toys, and equipment were found to be age appropriate. The upstairs area of the center was inspected, although this area will be off limits to children. Administrative policies and procedures were inspected with a few violations discovered; see attached violation notice. Owner and staff records were inspected with the required information found. The center is stated to operate Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 6:00pm providing services for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Transportation will also be provided as needed.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-I Description: Based on the inspection of administrative policies and procedures, the center has not developed written injury prevention procedures. Evidence: During the inspection of administrative policies and procedures, it was discovered the center did not have any written injury prevention procedures. Licensing standards require centers to develop written procedures for injury prevention. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-K Description: Based on the inspection of administrative policies and procedures, the center has not developed written playground safety procedures. Evidence: During the inspection of administrative policies and procedures, it was discovered the center did not have any written playground safety procedures. Licensing standards require centers to develop written procedures for playground safety to include staff supervision and resilient surfacing maintenance. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-90--A Description: Based on the inspection of administrative records, the written parent agreement did not have the required illness statement.
During the inspection of the parent agreement, it was discovered the agreement did not have the illness statement which requires the center to notify the parent when the child becomes ill and that the parent will arrange to have the child picked up as soon as possible.
Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-B Description: Based on the inspection of the emergency preparedness plan, it was discovered some of the required components were not listed in the plan. Evidence: During the inspection of the emergency preparedness plan, it was discovered the evacuation and shelter-in-place parts of the plan were missing the following: assembly points, head counts, primary and secondary means of egress, securing of essential documents, gathering of essential healthcare supplies, and methods of communication after the evacuation. Plan of Correction: Per director: I will update the emergency preparedness plan with the above information and email to the licensing inspector.
