- Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed the restrooms located in the back of the center which children will have access to with accompaniment of staff to supervise. Since the kitchen is located adjacent to the hallway where these restrooms are located, we discussed the installation of a gate at the kitchen door in case chemicals or sharp knives being used are occasionally accessible. The square footage of the outdoor play space will limit the number of children utilizing it to 30 at any given time. A shady area must be provided on playgrounds during the months of June, July, and August. Additional step stools may need to be provided in restrooms for children who cannot easily reach the toilets and sinks. This should be monitored as enrollment increases and additional restrooms are utilized - or certain restrooms designated for younger children should be equipped while school aged restrooms need not have step stools.
An initial inspection was conducted today from 11:30 a.m. to 2:40p.m. Children are not yet in care. The center is a large open space divided into four designated classroom areas. Each of these four classroom / areas and equipment / materials / supplies were inspected as well as common spaces to include restrooms and the areas designated for outdoor play. Food prep areas, emergency supplies and first aid kit were also viewed. Records for 3 staff were reviewed today. Additional staff will be brought on as enrollment requires. Children are not yet enrolled so children's records could not be reviewed. Certain areas of the standards could not be determined today as the center is not in yet in operation. All standards applicable at this time were reviewed during this initial inspection. Standards which could not be determined at the initial inspection will be reviewed at subsequent unannounced monitoring inspections once the program is licensed and operating.
