An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 1:50 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. At the time of entrance the following adult to child ratios were observed: Class B: 12 children, ages 3 to 5 years old, with 2 staff Class A: 10 children, ages 3 to 5 years old, with 1 staff (a parent volunteer was also present to assist the teacher, as needed.) The records sample size consisted of 4 children?s records. Staff records are housed off site and will be reviewed at a separate inspection. Children were observed resting quietly on cots at nap period, having an afternoon snack consisting of cucumber slices, ranch dressing and milk, being picked up by parents, and gathering at the rug for end of day preparations. Restroom procedures, hand washing and table sanitizing were also observed. Medication administration was not observed. However, 3 medications were reviewed with regard to storage, labeling, written authorizations and required documentation. Children are not routinely transported in a vehicle while in care - parents drop off and pick up the children in attendance. Staff #1 stated that there have been no accidents or injuries incurred by children in care, requiring first aid or medical care, since the last licensing inspection. Repeat violations were found and are identified within this report. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Thank you for your time during today's inspection. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of assistance. The licensee provided verbal responses to the violations during the inspection, which were entered on to the violation notice by the Licensing inspector.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on temperatures taken during the inspection, the licensee did not ensure that restrooms used by children in care have sinks located near the toilets that are supplied with running warm water that does not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Evidence: Staff confirmed that there are three restrooms used by children in care. The 2 restrooms located on the back hallway had sinks next to the toilets. The hot water temperature at these sinks measured 133 degrees Fahrenheit with a digital thermometer. The sink in the restroom on the front hall which is used most often by the children had hot water at the tap which measured 117.9 degrees Fahrenheit. Plan of Correction: Staff #1 stated that she would place a maintenance request today to have the temperature adjusted at the hot water heater that supplies the back restrooms to ensure the water does not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Until the temperature is adjusted, staff will only have the children use the front restroom to wash hands.
