An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today, March 28, 2017 to ensure compliance with licensing standards. The Licensing Inspector arrived at 10:00 am and concluded the inspection at 3:00 pm. The facility director/ administrator participated in the inspection. Upon arrival children and staff were observed participating in a variety of activities. Activities among the preschool children included center time with tabletop toys, puzzles, blocks, art (cutting out pictures from magazine and gluing them on paper) sensory table, and books). Pre-kindergarten and Jr. kindergarten classes had a visitor who presented a program on recycling and later the classrooms had time on the playground. Lower and upper nursery were observed exploring with prisms and sensory tubes. Children and staff discussed the colors while looking through tented glass. Toddler played with bubbles and dolls while staff conducted diapering. Hand washing was observed. Later lunch time and nap time were observed. Staff interacted in a positive manner with children. All areas of the facility to include classrooms, kitchen, halls, bathrooms, outdoor play areas and the facilities van/ buses were inspected. The facility was equipped with age and stage appropriate materials and supplies. The first aid kits and non-medical emergency supplies for the building and vehicles were inspected and found complete. Additional subsidy requirements that were not addressed during the renewal inspection were reviewed. he facility had all required information posted to include: License, last inspection notice, emergency numbers, evacuation procedures/map, daily schedules, and menu along with various parent information. The facility will be hosting their annual art show next month. Four staff records and six children's records were reviewed. Background checks for board members were also reviewed. Medications and authorizations reviewed. Staff have current CPR, first aid, DHO and MAT certification. The most recent evacuation drill was conducted on 02/28/2017. The two required shelter-in-place drills for 2016 were documented on 02/17/2016 and 11/16/2016. Ratios Observed: Toddlers: 7 children with 2 staff. Half-Day Preschool: 10 children with 2 staff. Jr. Pre-kindergarten: 9 children with 2 staff. Pre-kindergarten: 13 children with 2 staff. Pre-school: 12 children with 4 staff. Upper Nursery: 4 children with 1 staff. Lower Nursery: 6 children with 2 staff. School age children were not in attendance during today's inspection. Today's lunch consisted of ham and cheese sandwich, green beans, pears and milk. The violations from the previous inspection on December 12, 2016 were checked for corrections. Their were no repeat violations cited during today's inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-1-C Description: Based on review of board member records, the facility did not obtain a central registry check before three years since the most recent central registry finding. Evidence: Board member #3, had a central registry check dated 09/28/2013, exceeding the three year allowance. Plan of Correction: Per the Director: The request for an updated central registry check was mailed off and is expected to be returned any day now.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-1 Description: Based on review of staff records, the facility did not obtain an original criminal history record report within 30 days of employment. Evidence: Staff #1, with a hire date of 03/08/2016, had a criminal history report that was dated 12/13/2016, exceeding the 30 day allowance. Plan of Correction: Per the Director: An original criminal history record had been completed at the time of hire but could not be located so a new criminal history was completed for the record.
