22VAC40-185 SPECIAL SERVICES.
Today an unannounced monitoring visit was conducted with Assistant Principal. This visit took place in the morning between 9:00-12:30 there were 8 classrooms with a total of 110 children with 21 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed having morning free play, outdoor play, counting, math, blocks, story-time, learning about zoo animals, morning snack, lunch and nap time. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-A Description: Based on observation of the physical plant, over-the counter skin products were found kept beyond expiration date. Evidence: In the PK1 classroom, sunscreen were found beyond the expiration date.. Plan of Correction: Assistant Principal stated that she will speak with staff regarding the rules and procedures on properly handling sunscreens in the classroom.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-B Description: Based on observation sunscreen were found Can be unlocked & accessible to children under 5 years old. Evidence: In the Pk11 classroom, 8 sunscreens were found in the children cubbies unlocked and accessible to children. Plan of Correction: Staff immediately removed the sunscreens from the cubby and placed in a locked cabinet. Staff stated that the sunscreens are from last year and need to be returned to parents thats why they were in the cubby for pickup.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-M Description: Based on observation of the children and staff, staff were observed not sitting with children during meal times. Evidence: In two of the classrooms, staff were observed walking around and not sitting with children during morning snack/lunch. Plan of Correction: Assistant Principal stated that staff will be reminded during meal time to monitor them while eating.
