Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 12:10 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. There were three children in care with three staff working directly with them. There were other personnel available to assist as needed. Two children's records were reviewed. The record for two staff were reviewed. The infant was observed being cuddled, being strolled around, sleeping and being played with by staff. The older children were engaged in playing dress-up and pretend, playing a board game, engaged in an art project, talking to one another and the staff, making preparations for an art project for home and during pick-up. Any areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Should you have any questions please telephone your licensing inspector at (540) 430-9257.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on documentation and interview there were no evacuation drills for January and February 2017. Evidence: 1. On 05/12/2017 the licensing inspector noted the drills in January and February were shelter-in-place drills and there was no documentation of monthly evacuation drills. 2. On 05/12/2017 staff #1 confirmed there were only shelter-in-place drills done in January and February 2017.

Plan of Correction: I focused on ensuring we had the shelter-in-place drills and failed to have the monthly evacuation drills. This will not be an issue in the future as we will make sure each month we do an evacuation drill even if we do a shelter-in-place practice drill.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-1
Description: Based on record review there was no documentation of a criminal record check for one staff person.

Evidence:

1. On 05/12/2017 the licensing inspector reviewed the record for staff #2 and there was no Virginia State Criminal Record Check. Staff #2 was hired 01/23/2017.

2. On 05/12/2017 staff #3 reviewed the record and confirmed there was no Virginia State Criminal Record Check.

Plan of Correction: We will obtain the current criminal record check right away.
