Today's visit was a routine monitoring inspection. The inspection began at 9:50am and concluded at 2:00pm. There were a total of fifty children present with eight direct care staff and additional support staff to include the Program Director and the Assistant Program Director. During the inspection there were four out of nine classrooms in operation and were observed for the following: snack time, a guest speaker, circle time, hand washing, departure of some children was observed, a sample of two out of five medications were viewed, some policies and procedures were reviewed, emergency supplies were viewed, and one van used for daily transportation was viewed. Discussion took place regarding the results from the last inspection being posted in a manner that is conspicuous/visible and not covered by sign in sheets or other items. Discussion took place regarding "best practices" for storing medication that are to be picked up at the end of the day, but are not to be administered by the center. The program may want to obtain a note from the parent stating the medication is not to be administered by the program and will be picked up at the end of the day. Thank you for your time, please call me at 309-2051 if you have any questions.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on the inspector's review of two out of five medications, the center did not ensure their policy for prescription medication was followed as a medication authorization form did not include the duration of authorization for both medications. Evidence: The inspector reviewed an Epi-Pen and over the counter Benadryl tablets along with the medication authorization required by the center in order to administer medication. Both of the authorizations did not include the duration or legnth of time the medication was authorized by the parent to be given. Plan of Correction: The PD will ensure medication forms are complete when medication is brought to the center.
A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.
