Technical Assistance:
The following areas of the Child Day Center Standards were reviewed with administrative staff: Standard 580 - Transportation and field trips: *Standard 580.B.5 - "If volunteers supply personal vehicles, the center is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of this subsection are met." Subsection 580.B was reviewed Standard 560.K - Sanitizing procedures for tables; Standard 560.G - Dating of children's lunch containers; Standard 570.E - Prepared infant formula shall be refrigerated, dated and labeled with the child's name. Background check requirements reviewed.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 05/18/2017 from 10:00am - 12:35pm. At the time of the tour there were 92 children in care, ages infant - five years, with 14 staff. Children were observed during morning program time which included outdoor play. Morning snack was reviewed in two preschool classrooms. Records were reviewed for five children and five staff. A sample size of seven injury reports reviewed. Eight medications were reviewed. One violation was observed which was discussed with administrative staff at the exit interview.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that outside equipment of the center shall be maintained a a safe condition. Evidence: 1. There was a crack near the bottom of the plastic slide on the preschool climbing structure. The crack measured approximately one inch in length. The edge of the crack was sharp. 2. Cracked plastic is a pinch point for children's fingers. As the crack was slightly open with sharp edges -a child's clothing could be snagged or skin scratched.

Plan of Correction: Administrative staff responded that the cracked plastic would be repaired to eliminate the pinch point and cracked edge.
