Discussed the following standard: children's records.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today. Observed 50 children directly supervised by 10 staff members. A sample 4 staff records and 1 child record were reviewed. No medications were reported to be on site. The children were engaged in various activities, to include: free play, legos, interactive music, and infant care. Areas of non-compliance are identified in this report. The exit interview was conducted with the Director. Inspection conducted from approximately 10:40am to 11:50am. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based upon observations made, an area of the center was not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: Peeling paint was observed throughout a wall near the library center in the Discovery Preschool classroom. Plan of Correction: It would be fix this week.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based upon observations made, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1) 2 bottles of disinfectant and 1 bottle labeled cleaner were inside an unlocked cabinet in Infant A. 2) A bottle of hand sanitizer was observed on top of the sink area in the Discovery Preschool classroom. Plan of Correction: We will ensure that each classroom has the proper locks and that they are functioning.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-M Description: Based upon documentation reviewed, written records of children's injuries were incomplete. Evidence: 1) Two of the four incident/accident reports reviewed did not contain the time when parents were notified of the injury (Child A and B). 2) One of the four incident/accident reports reviewed did not contain documentation on how the parents were notified of the injury (Child A). Plan of Correction: We will continue to make sure that they have an understanding of what needs to be completed.
