An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:10am-12:15pm. There were 37 children directly supervised by 7 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 7 children?s records, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in playing outdoors, working on a timed math activity, playing with large trucks and cars. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Kara Wright at firstname.lastname@example.org or 703-537-6241.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, not all areas of the center were maintained in a clean safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. A ceiling tile near the door in the preschool classroom has visible water and rust stains. Director stated this is the result of a leak after recent heavy rains. 2. The outdoor playground structure and fencing is primarily composed of wood. Throughout there are many patches of splintered and rough wood and where wood has completely detached from the structures leaving large splintered areas where fingers could become entrapped or skin. 3. There are areas of the chain linked fence that have broken through the plastic coating and left sharp and rusted points exposed. Plan of Correction: The director will reach out to the owner to discuss the playground.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: A spray bottle filled with bleach and water was observed in an unlocked cabinet in the toddler classroom. Plan of Correction: We will lock the cabinet and remind the teacher to keep the cabinet locked.
