Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced renewal inspection conducted today, August 10, 2017. The on-site inspection was conducted from 10:35 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. At the time of arrival there were 122 children in ten classrooms and in the care of 19 staff members with two staff members available to assist if needed. One classroom of children were on a field trip to the pool. The total enrollment for the program was 165 children. The records for ten staff members were reviewed, and ten children's records were reviewed. There were nine staff members and five children interviewed. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for three children. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice. Lunch was observed to meet the USDA guidelines and consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches, green beans, pineapple, and milk. The current theme was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Some items observed and reviewed were: injury reports, sunscreen and diaper ointments along with parent authorizations, required posted information, emergency and shelter-in-place drills, water temperature, apple art projects, circle time, story time, infant care, infant feeding, diapering procedures, centers, hand washing and bathroom procedures, outdoor play, lunch, nap time, and dismissal procedures. Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on review of records and verification from the director, the center failed to obtain a completed search of the central registry for one new employee. Evidence: 1. The record of Staff Member #9 did not contain a completed search of the central registry. The date of hire was 05/16/2017. 2. The director confirmed the request for the search was mailed on 05/12/2017 but it had not been returned. Plan of Correction: The director called DSS and spoke with them on the status of the request. The staff member has completed a new search request and it will be mailed today.
