- Technical Assistance:
Discussed changes to the background checks, we must review original background results, no copies allowed. All chemicals and hazardous materials must be in a locked area.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 10:30 am-2:00. At the time of entrance, 47 children were in care with 17 staff members present. Children were observed engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. A selection of staff and children records, medications and other documents were reviewed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas of the center is not maintained in an safe and operable condition. Evidence: There is a hole in the wall in room # 128, the hole is located next to the electrical outlet in the back classroom, far left side of room. Plan of Correction: Maintenance has been contacted and will make needed repairs.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not found in locked areas. Evidence: Bleach and water spray bottles were found inaccessible to children on the counter tops in room # 105, 106, 138, 143, 115, 119 and 121. Plan of Correction: We will have the staff lock up all chemicals.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-E Description: Based on observation, a child's medication was not labeled with the child's name. Evidence: There was a medication found in room # 119 without the child's name on the bottle or box. Plan of Correction: We have labeled the child's medication.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-C Description: Based on observation, diaper ointments were not labeled and were kept beyond the expiration date of the product. Evidence: Two diaper creams were not labeled with the child's name in room # 101. (Child #1 and #2) Child #1 diaper cream expired 4/2017. Plan of Correction: We will label all diaper creams. We will send home the expired diaper cream with the parent tonight.
