An unannounced complaint investigation was initiated today at 1pm. This was in response to a complaint received by the Fairfax Licensing office on 5/22/17. Interviews were conducted with staff and witnesses relating to a concern regarding infant feeding procedures. It was determined that a child was placed on an inappropriate furnishing to be fed and that the bottle given to the child was propped due to the child being unable to hold the bottle. The Director worked with the staff working with infants to ensure they know appropriate infant feeding procedures. Please see Violation Notice for more details. Based on this information, this complaint was determined to be "Valid". Should you have any questions, please contact me.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interviews, a child under 12 months old was not placed on a high chair, infant carrier seat or at a feeding table when not held while being fed. Evidence 1. On 5/17/17, staff #1 placed child #1 (8 months old) on a "boppy" (U-shaped) pillow with a bottle to be fed. The child was then observed sliding off of the pillow as the bottle then came out of her mouth. The milk began to pour out onto the child's face before staff #1 could pick up the child. Plan of Correction: The Director retrained the staff on procedures related to feeding infants. All "boppy" pillows have been removed from the center.

The infant was unable to hold the bottle, so it was propped between the child and the pillow. The bottle then slid out of her mouth and milk began to pour over her face before staff #1 could attend to the child. Plan of Correction: The Director retrained the staff on procedures related to feeding infants. All "boppy" pillows have been removed from the center.
