- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance included outdoor areas. We also discussed child's allergy to food color, and sweeping mulch. We also discussed changes in the background check requirements.
An unannounced renewal inspection took place today from 11:00 am-1:30pm. There were 3 classes present today with 23 children and 7 adults. I observed 2 year olds practicing yoga (!); and children involved in dramatic play. I also saw music and movement activities and watched children work in the sandbox. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A Description: Based on a review of children's records today, two records did not have adequate emergency contact information. Evidence: Of five records reviewed today, Child # 2 and 3 did not have complete emergency contact information. Plan of Correction: Parents will be contacted by e-mail tonight.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: During today's inspection, some areas of the center were observed to not be maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: Indoors: There were some electric stars with a wire accessible at children's height in one room. There was also the wire from the light table accessible as a tripping hazard. Outdoors: On the wooden fence on the right of the playground, a metal hinge was protruding at ankle level, and there were some sharp areas in the wood. There was also a rusting screw loose at child height in the fence. Swing chains were rusty in areas. . Plan of Correction: Indoor areas corrected during inspection. Outdoor areas - I will follow up with property owner and duct tape or make inaccessible any issues.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: During today's inspection, the janitor's closet with hazardous substances were observed to be unlocked while children were present. Evidence: The closet, located on the first level on the way to the exit, was not latched. Plan of Correction: I will remind parents and staff; and post a sign.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G Description: Based on a review of children's medications, there was a prescription medication present that did not meet all requirements for staff administration based on the standard. Evidence: The emergency medication for Child # 1 did not have the original container available as required. Plan of Correction: Parent was contacted during inspection.
