22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced renewal study was conducted today from 10 am to 12:05 pm. 52 children were directly supervised by 12 staff members. Ratios were in compliance. The physical space, five children's records, five staff records, emergency supplies, the emergency preparedness plan, evacuation drills, injury reports and medications were reviewed. Required documents were posted. The children were observed playing outside, working in small group activities, building with blocks, writing and coloring. The infants were observed with tummy time and interacting with caregivers. Interactions were positive. The space was clean, organized and contained an abundance of developmentally appropriate materials. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. Area rugs in several classrooms were frayed at the edge. 2. The foot step trash can in the toddler 1 classroom is rusty. 3. The tiles in the enrichment room to the entrance of the playground are chipped. 4. The plastic soft couch in the toddler 1 classroom is tearing on the arm exposing the stuffing. Plan of Correction: Director stated that she would trim the rugs and replace the trash can. A work order has been sent for the tiles. She will patch teh soft couch.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation, prescription medication was not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: An Epipen for Child #1 was observed in an unlocked backpack hanging from the door in the preschool 1 classroom. Plan of Correction: Director stated that she would place the ziploc bag iwith the Epipen in a locked medicine bag.
