Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included procedures for emergencies, record keeping, and physical environment.

Comments:
An initial inspection was conducted on site today. No children were present. Staff records and policies were reviewed today. The center is a Montessori-based program for full and part day students. Classrooms were filled with a variety of inviting age appropriate activities, and the outdoor space follows a natural environment with an emphasis on early science/nature experiences. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-160-A
Description: Based on a review of staff records today, not all tuberculosis screenings were done within the required timeline. Evidence: Staff # 2 had documentation of a tuberculosis screening that was over a year old prior to beginning employment.

Plan of Correction: She will bring in a doctor's note by Friday.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: During today's inspection, an area of the center was observed not to be maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: In the gym today, a sliding "barn door" that separates the kitchen window from the gym was found to have moving parts at child height which pose an entrapment hazard.

Plan of Correction: We will keep it closed with a latch on the inside and plastic covers on the bottom outside.
