22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:25am-11:45am. There were 42 children directly supervised by 12 staff and parent volunteers. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in free play, reading books in small and large groups, playing outside, and preparing to eat a snack consisting of cheese, crackers and strawberries. Teachers were observed interacting with children frequently and using gentle tones and redirecting children's behavior in a positive manner. Teachers were also observed coaching the children on hand washing procedures. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1. A chemical sponge was observed in an unlocked cabinet in the Dragonfly Classroom. 2. A spray bottle of bleach water was observed in the Spiders Classroom. Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation, not all electrical outlets were outfitted with protective covers. Evidence: 1. An outlet located above the sink in the Spider's classroom did not have a protective cover. 2. In the Spider's classroom a power-strip was observed with one outlet that did not have a protective covering. Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection.
