Discussed the recent communication regarding fingerprint based background checks for child day programs. Anyone who has lived in another state in the past five years is required to request a check of the child abuse and neglect registry for each state they have lived in the past five years. Also shared the updated USDA meal patterns
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:50pm. The children were observed engaged in a variety of activities such as, singing songs, making the number two with cheerios and playing on the playground. They were also observed having a large group activity with a Second Step representative of the Rappahanock Area Community Services Board. Lunch consisted of meatballs, mashed potatoes, broccoli, pears, and milk. The lunch menu was posted. All classrooms, the bus and the playground were inspected today. Five children?s records and ten employee records were reviewed during this inspection. Medication is being administered and was reviewed. Last emergency drill: 09/20/2017 Last shelter-in-place drill: 07/31/2017 Fire Inspection-06/19/2017 Health Inspection-08/29/2017 Total enrollment today: 57 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Twos ? 10:2 Older Two's-13:2 Threes I ?9:1 Threes II ?12:2 Pre-K ?13:2 School Age ?not present The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation on 10/24/2017, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. EVIDENCE: 1. A spray bottle labeled "bleach and water" was observed in an unlocked cabinet in the changing room. 2. A canister of disinfectant spray was observed on a shelf in a closet in the Older Two's room. The spray was out of the reach of the children. 3. Three canisters of spray paint was observed on a shelf in a closet in the Three's I room. The paint was out of the reach of the children. 4. A canister of disinfectant spray was observed on a shelf in a closet in the Pre-K/Kindergarten room. No children were present in the room. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site. The spray paint was discarded and the other items were placed in locked boxes.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation and staff interview on 10/24/2017, the center did not ensure that medication, including staff's personal medication, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. EVIDENCE: A bottle of non prescription pain reliever pills was observed in an unlocked drawer at the front desk. Staff #11 stated medication was for staff. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site. Medication placed in a locked cabinet.
