Licensing Inspector arrived at 8:45am and departed at 11:00am to conduct a Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection. At the time of the tour there were 46 children in care with 10 staff present. Children were observed in classrooms playing with toys and reading books, and on the "thinking carpet." A sample size of 5 children and 3 staff records were reviewed in addition to 3 medications. The center does not currently have any children with food allergies.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: In the school-age bathroom there was a large area of peeling paint next to the toilet. Plan of Correction: The area used to have a toilet paper holder. A new one has been ordered and the area will be repainted.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all hazardous substances were kept in a locked pace using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. In the 4 year-old room there was a can of disinfectant spray in the children's bathroom. Plan of Correction: The spray was put in a locked place during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all electrical outlets had protective covers. Evidence: In the 3 year-old room there was an powerstrip on the floor that had 4 outlets that were not covered. A child was observed playing on the floor next to the powerstrip. Plan of Correction: The director will placed protective covers over al outlets and will remind staff that they need t be covered at all times.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all bathrooms were equipped with all required items. Evidence: In the toddler bathroom there was no paper towels. Plan of Correction: The director asked the staff to refill the paper towels during the inspection.
