An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, November 9, 2017 to determine compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 11:00 am and concluded at 3:00 pm. Upon the inspector's arrival children were observed in a variety of activities. Children in the three year old program were having lunch in the cafeteria. Hand washing was conducted and children sang a blessing. The toddler and two year old classrooms had settled down for nap. Staff sat with children and patted the backs of those who had not fallen asleep. Soft music played in the background. The pre-kindergarten class was observed in center time. Children played in dress up with different costumes, built tracks for marbles and worked with staff on counting and patterns. Staff used colored caps for children to count and create patterns. The four year old class had gathered together for a Thanksgiving story. For art children made turkey headbands that they will wear during the Thanksgiving luncheon with parents. Later snack was observed in the three year old class. Children made a dinosaur kale salad as part of the Dr. Yum program. Children tried the kale and talked about what they thought of it. Staff also introduced a pomegranate to children. All areas of the facility were inspected. Outdoor centers have been added to the playground. Areas for music (pots and pans on the fence), sorting (baskets to sort pine cones, leaves and rocks) and a weight station (compare the weight of an object with a scale). The facility has age appropriate materials. The required documentation was posted and included the license, last inspection notice, emergency numbers, allergy list, evacuation map/procedures, daily schedule and various parent information. The first aid kit and non-medical supplies were checked and found complete. The inspector interacted with staff and children in care.
