Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 11:30am and departed at 1:30pm to conduct a Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection. At the time of the tour there were 72 children in care with 21 staff present. Children were observed during nap. Infants were observed sleeping in cribs, being fed and on the floor playing with staff. Emergency plans were discussed with the program director.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: The half door where the children enter the main day care area had peeling paint.

Plan of Correction: The door had been recently painted however it began to peel again. The director is looking to purchase a new door that is not painted.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-J
Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure there was at least thirty inches of space between service sides of occupied cribs and other furniture where that space is the walkway for staff to gain access to any occupied crib. Evidence: Two infants were observed sleeping in cribs. Each crib had furniture in the service side area and neither crib had a t least 30 inches of space on the service side.

Plan of Correction: The director will rearrange the room so that each crib has at least 30 inches of space on service sides when occupied.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-I
Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure there was a one-day's emergency supply of formula, disposable bottles ad nipples. Evidence: The center had 2 small containers of powdered formula and 1 container of liquid formula. There were 12 infants in care at the time of inspection. When asked if the formula was enough to feed each infant in care for one day, The staff responded, No."

Plan of Correction: The director will ensure there is enough formula and supplies for each infant for an entire day.
