An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Friday, December 15, 2017, from approximately 10:50am until 3:00pm. All classrooms were inspected. The following staff to child ratios were observed: Infants were observed having floor play time, while sleeping, and while eating. Toddlers: eight children with two staff - The children and staff were building with mega blocks. 2A: eleven children with two staff - The children were identifying food items and recognizing letters. 2B: ten children with two staff - The children were making ornaments and listening to stories. 3A: four children with one staff- The children were painting with water colors and finding animals in the tactile table that was filed with noodles. 3B: ten children with one staff - The children were building with magnet blocks and practicing hand writing. 4A: five children with one - The children were singing "Five little Snowmen". 4B: fourteen children with two staff - The children were creating objects with red play dough. A practice Shelter-in-Place drill was conducted 10/30/17. A practice evacuation drill was conducted 11/27/17. Six children's records and six staff records were inspected.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observations, staff did not ensure children's hands were washed after toileting/diapering. Evidence: The licensing inspector observed two children not washing their hands after toileting/diapering. Plan of Correction: Per Center: "Staff member has reviewed proper diaper and handwashing procedures."
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observations, the center did not ensure disposable diapers were disposed in a storage system that is either foot-operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.
A foot operated container was present for disposal of soiled diapers, however, a staff person was observed lifting the lid with their hand to dispose the soiled diaper.
Plan of Correction: Per Center: "Staff member has reviewed proper diaper and handwashing procedures."
