22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
- Technical Assistance:
New USDA food requirements were discussed with the Director. MAT trained staff should be present at all times children with medication are in care.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from10:30am and departed at 12:30pm. Upon arrival there were 37 children in care with 6 staff present. Children were observed participating in a dinosaur activity, bathroom break and hand washing. Children were also observed watching television and eating lunch. A sample of 3 medications were reviewed in addition to 3 staff and 3 children's records. Transportation is not provided at this time.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all areas and equipment were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: The hand railing between the two building structures used by children to pass between both had peeling paint along it. Plan of Correction: The director will have the railing sanded and repainted.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards when tested in accordance with the procedures described in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard F1292-99. Evidence: The center's playground had 3 climbing structures that did not have the required resilient surfacing. There was about 3 inches of surfacing. Six inches of surfacing is required underneath each. Plan of Correction: Mulch is scheduled for delivery for this Monday.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on a record review the center failed to ensure prescription medication met all requirements. Evidence: Child #4 had an Epi Pen that was not in the original box, nor did the authorization form have a parental signature. Plan of Correction: The director will contact the parent today and request the original box for the medication and have sign the authorization form.
