The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection that began at the center at 10:20am and concluded with staff record reviews at the central office at 3:15pm. There were fifteen preschool children in care with three staff. The children were observed at circle time, during music, at story time and coloring. Five staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and all had been corrected. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observations, the center failed to maintain the outside play area in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the playground. There was black plastic protruding through the bark mulch next to the steps to the large climber creating a tripping hazard. Plan of Correction: The director will have additional mulch added to this area of the playground. The children will not use the playground until additional mulch is added.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observations, the center failed to have all hazardous substances stored in a locked place. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the classroom. There was a wall cabinet that contained cleaning supplies that was not locked. The cabinet contained Clorox Anywhere, bleach, Lysol spray and disinfectant cleaner. The cabinet is inaccessible to the children, but was not locked. Plan of Correction: Staff locked the cabinet during the inspection and will monitor to ensure all hazardous substances are stored in a locked place.
