**Discussed today the new changed to the the background check requirements. **Discussed today the safe storage of items that the children may use under teacher supervision.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 12:50pm-2:00pm. There were three open classrooms with 34 children directly supervised by 6 staff. The physical plant, 5 children?s records, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. No medication was present during today's inspection. Staff files are checked annually as they are stored in a central location. There were an appropriate number of staff that have received training in Medication Administration and First aid and CPR. Children were observed participating in group play, working on a painting project, learning about the letter "I", stamping with ink pads and conducting a science activity with ice and and water. Positive interactions were noted in each classroom. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: In the 4's classroom a cabinet was observed to store bottles of spray cleaners. The door to the cabinet has a combination style lock which was set to the correct combination rendering the lock ineffective. Plan of Correction: Will speak to staff about properly locking cabinet.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation, food brought from home was not labeled clearly to identify the owner or the current date. Evidence: Six lunches from home were observed without the current date clearly marked. Three lunches were not labeled to identify the owner of the lunch bag. Plan of Correction: We will remind parents to label and date lunches and snacks brought from home.
