Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 1/19/18. There were 38 children present; 10 school-agers were present as the public schools were closed in the area due to road conditions. Five children's records and six staff records were reviewed. No medications were at the center. The inspector arrived at the center at 11:45 am and departed at 3:30 pm. The children were observed after lunch, during nap, and during a movie (school-agers), and during afternoon. The baby house was observed and infant activities were observed. There was discussion with the director about the following: ensuring labels on personal items (pacifiers) are legible at all times - may need to re-label them daily; use of the other rooms in the baby house (fire marshal approval); proper sanitizing techniques for food tables (high chair trays), fingerprinting memos, completing background checks prior to a staff person beginning work.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G
Description: Based on observation and interview with staff, the center failed to ensure that food that was brought from home was labeled as required. Evidence: 1. There was a bag in the baby house refrigerator that contained a sippie cup with milk in it, a small baby bottle with milk in it, a juice bottle, and a yogurt. The staff stated that the food was for a child in care from home. There was no name of the child on the bag or any of the food/drink from home and there was no date on the bag or food as required.

Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection. A staff person labeled and dated the food from home. The staff will check food brought from home each day when the child arrives to ensure this is done daily.
