An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted with the center director from 12:10 - 2:40 pm. There were 70 children, ranging in age from six months to five years old, present with ten staff members supervising. The children were observed eating lunch, having a diaper change, and napping. Lunch today was potato pierogis, green beans, apple sauce and milk. Seven children?s records and four staff records were reviewed and in compliance. The last emergency escape drill was 1/17/18 and the last shelter in place drill was 2/14/17. No medications were on site. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation, the facility failed to wash children's hands with soap and running water after toileting. Evidence: In the two?s classroom, after diapering, two children were placed back on the floor and went on their cots without washing their hands. Plan of Correction: Teacher has been given additional training on diaper changes.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, it was determined that not all procedures for diapering or soiled clothing were followed. Evidence: In the infant room there was a linen basket with a soiled bib and burp cloth that was not leakproof or covered. In the two?s classroom staff disposed of two diapers in a trash can that was not foot operated or used in such a way that the staff member?s hand nor the soiled diaper touched an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal. Plan of Correction: Linen basket has been replaced with new basket that has a liner and lid. Teacher in 2's room has been trained on properly disposing a diaper using her foot.
