22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 9:45am-11:45am. A complaint investigation was also conducted on this date and can be viewed in a separate report. At the time of inspection, 215 children (infants through five years) were directly supervised by staff and ratios were in compliance. Children were observed during free play, reading stories, and transitioning to outdoor play. Diapering procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of books, toys, and materials for the children. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Please complete the ?plan of correction? and ?date to be corrected? for each violation cited on the violation notice and return to me within 5 calendar days. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas of the center, were not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: In classroom 116, an area of peeling paint was observed on the wall of the reading corner. Plan of Correction: Area was patched and repainted.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, a potentially hazardous substance was not kept in a locked place to prevent access by children. Evidence: In classroom 101A, one spray disinfectant was stored above the refrigerator and not in a locked place. Plan of Correction: Disinfectant was placed in a locked cabinet; all staff reminded to lock away all items to prevent access by children.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on review of five medications, the center did not dispose of medication within 14 days of the expired medication authorization. Evidence: Child #1 had a medication authorization that expired in June 2017. Child #2 had a medication authorization that expired in September 2017. The parents were notified, however, the medications were at the center on the date of inspection (February 8, 2018). Plan of Correction: All old medications disposed.
