Technical Assistance:
The following standards were discussed with the program director: 22VAC40-185-(7)-550-B *emergency evacuation plan

Comments:
Licensing Inspector arrived at 10:45am and departed at 12:35pm to conduct a Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection. At the time of the tour there were 63 children in care with 15 staff present. A sampling of 3 staff and 7 children's records were reviewed in addition to 3 medications. Children were observed coming in from the playground, finishing lunch, getting ready for nap. Some of the toddlers were already observed sleeping on cots. Infants were observed sleeping in cribs, being fed and playing on the floor with staff.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: The playground area had numerous "gumballs" fallen from a nearby tree that covered the play areas used by the children. The gumballs are pinchy and can be a tripping hazard.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action plan was provided by the licensee: We are working in conjunction with our facilities department to get a full playground spring clean up done by 3/23/18. Safety Captain will ensure that all sidewalks are swept daily to remove gumballs prior to outdoor play.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-B
Description: Based on a record review and interview with the program director the following components were not included in the center's emergency plans. Evidence: The center's emergency plans did not include the sounding of the alarms or availability and primary use of communication tools for the evacuation, shelter-in-place or intruder plans.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action plan was provided by the licensee: Emergency plans have been reviewed and updated as of 3/7/18. DM and management will review annually, or as needed to update. CD will ensure that all staff are trained on this and that families have access to the plan as of 3/7/18.
