22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:30 am-12:30pm. At the time of entrance, 67 children were in care with 10 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, circle time, dancing to music, finger painting, writing skill activities, and working on a group art project. A selection of staff and children records, medications and other documents were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, equipment of the center inside were not maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. In the Four Year old classroom, a knob on the front of the pretend oven was broken off and sharp and a handle on the pretend refrigerator was loose and needs to be tighten. Plan of Correction: The pretend over and refrigerator were removed from the classroom to either repair or replace.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1. In the Four year old classroom, a bottle of febreze air freshner was sitting on a shelf near the classroom door and was not kept in a locked place. 2. In the bathroom connected to the Four year old classroom, a spray bottle of disinfectant was on a high shelf and was not kept in a locked place. Plan of Correction: Both cleaning products were moved to a locked place immediately. .
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation, the center failed to cover all unused electrical outlets accessible to children under five years of age with child resistant protective covers. Evidence: 1. In the four year old classroom, one unused electrical outlet near the widow was not covered with a protective cover. Plan of Correction: The outlet was covered immediately.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation, the center did not have children wash hands with soap and running water or disposable wipes after eating meals or snacks. Evidence: 1. In the four year old classroom, the children were observed eating breakfast. After finishing their meal, they went directly to the floor for circle time and did not wash their hands with soap and water or disposable wipes. Plan of Correction: I will remind the teachers to make sure the children wash their hands before and after eating snacks or meals.
