An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today with the director, who was present with five staff and thirty children at the beginning of the inspection. The children were playing in the gym, then proceeded upstairs for lunch ( wheat crackers, applesauce, cheese, milk and juice). The three buses in use were inspected today. There were no medication on site for any of the children. Five staff and six children's files were reviewed today. Arrival time: 4: 20 pm Departure time: 6: 15 pm
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation, it was determined that all of the children did not wash their hands or clean them with disposable wipes before eating their afternoon snack. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector observed some of the children leave the gym, go upstairs and have snack and at no time did they wash their hands with soap and water or disposable wipes. Plan of Correction: I will retrain staff on the importance of cleaning the children's hands before and after eating.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on a review of the record keeping and an interview with the director, it was determined that the center has not implemented monthly practiced escape drills or shelter in place drills twice a year. Evidence: The center failed to do escape drills for October and November 2017 and there were no shelter in place drills documented for 2017. Plan of Correction: We will remember to do monthly escape drills and we forgot to document the shelter in place drill for 2017. We will make sure to do shelter in place drills for 2018.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-K Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the tables the children used for their afternoon snack were not sanitized before use. Evidence: The tables being used by the 30 children were dirty, sticky and had large particles of food on them. At no time were the tables sanitized before the children used them. Plan of Correction: I will retrain staff on the need to clean and sanitize the tables.
