22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
On March 15, 2018, an unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted between the hours of approximately 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Fifty (50) children were enrolled and thirty-five (35) children were in the care of six staff members, in three classrooms, during the on site inspection. One additional staff member was present and assisted, as needed. Five children's records were reviewed and six staff records were reviewed and/or updated. Background clearances for two additional staff members were also reviewed. No medications were on site/administered. Safety equipment, posted information (license, inspection documentation, weekly menu, emergency evacuation diagram/plan, emergency telephone numbers and classroom schedules) and available documents (emergency evacuation drill/shelter-in-place drill records, local agency reports, injury reports, infants' daily sheets and attendance records) were observed/reviewed. Staff/child interactions were observed to be positive and supportive of children's growth and development. The facility was observed to be clean and supplied with a variety of age/stage appropriate learning and play materials/toys. Program observation was completed. Activities provided on this date included: indoor play - toys, stories; group games/songs/movement; restroom, diapering and handwashing procedures; lunch (hot dogs, baked beans, oranges, cornbread/wheat bread; naptime; infant care and arrival/departure of children. Previously cited violations (inspection date - 8/07/2017) were reviewed for compliance; no repeat violations were cited. No standards violations were cited during this inspection. Discussion, on this date, included changes in the background check process, review of standards 22 VAC 40-185-560-F.4. (choking hazards) and 22 VAC 40-185-570-I (emergency supply of infant bottles and formula) and possible use of additional program space. Thank you for your time and assistance.
