Technical Assistance:
During the inspection, the licensing representative discussed with administrators children's records, the process for requesting an allowable variance, and recent guidance regarding lock requirements. Administrators have began the process of obtaining fingerprints through OBI.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 10:15am-1:45pm. A total of 34 children were observed in the care of 6 staff present. Additional staff arrived during the inspection. A total of 2 staff and 3 children's records, emergency drills and other documents were reviewed. Children were observed during various activities including engaging in the use of technology, arts and crafts, socializing with peers, playing with blocks and other manipulatives. Positive guidance and interactions were observed from staff and children. Staff interacted with children in ways to nurture and foster independence and positive self-image. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place. Evidence: Disinfectant wipes were observed in an unlocked closet in a classroom.

Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-430-B
Description: Based on observation, materials were not age and stage appropriate for children. Evidence: Small beads and dolphin manipulatives were observed in a classroom where the youngest child was two and half years old.

Plan of Correction: We will remove it. Licensing representative also provided Administrators Allowable Variance Request Form.

Description: Based on observation, requirements for the use of 5 out of 7 diaper ointments were not met. Evidence: 3 diaper creams were not labeled with children's names; 2 diaper creams were missing written authorizations of use from parents.

Plan of Correction: We will label all diaper creams and request authorizations.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on a review and discussion with staff, monthly evacuation drills and shelter in place drills were not practiced. Evidence: Administrator informed licensing representative that evacuation drills were not practiced in November 2017 or February 2018; 1 of 2 required shelter in place drills were practiced during the 2016-2017 school year.

Plan of Correction: We will make sure to practice and document all drills moving forward.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G
Description: Based on observation, food brought from home was not properly labeled. Evidence: 4 children's lunches brought from home were not labeled with dates.

Plan of Correction: We will discuss requirement with all teachers and make sure all lunches are labeled with dates.
