An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on March 30, 2018. The director and her assistant were present. In the Infant/Toddler Room there were 3 infants and 5 toddlers with 2 staff. The infants were sleeping and the toddlers were eating their lunch. In the Preschool Room there were 8 children with 1 staff, and the children were on their mats for nap time. There were 3 Early Head Start Rooms. The first room on the left included 8 children with 2 staff; the second room on the right included 7 children with 2 staff, and the room at the back of the center included 4 children with 1 staff. In all 3 rooms the children were on their mats for nap time. School age children were not in care. There were no medications being administered. Emergency drills had been documented. Five children's files and 5 staff files were reviewed. Inspection began: 10:50 Inspection ended: 12:30
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on observation the center did not have sinks are supplied with running warm water that does not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Evidence: The water temperature at the hand washing sinks in the rest rooms was measured at 134 degrees and 135 degrees. Plan of Correction: The temperature will be lowered to 120 degrees.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure that staff shall wash their hands with soap and running water before and after helping a child use the toilet or a diaper change. Evidence: A staff was observed as she helped 3 children in the rest room. She changed the pull up of one child, and then changed a second child's pull up without washing her hands or the first child's hands. Plan of Correction: The director will meet with the staff and review hand washing procedures as well as diaper changing procedures. The director will monitor staff to ensure compliance
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on observation, the center did not have all of the required items for the first aid kits in the vehicles used to transport children. Evidence: The first aid kit in the white bus did not includea thermometer, scissors, and tweezers. The first aid kit in the blue van did not include scissors and tweezers. Plan of Correction: The supplies will be purchased today.
