Comments:
An unannounced, mandated monitoring inspection was conducted today. The inspector arrived at 8:55 AM and departed at 11:45 AM. Fifty-eight children were in care with nineteen staff at the start of the inspection. Morning arrivals, activities, outdoor play and snack service were observed. Medication administration and injury records were reviewed. A sample size of five staff records (to include newly hired staff since the previous inspection) and five children's records were reviewed. An exit meeting was conducted with the program director and administrator prior to closure of the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based upon review of the medication stored at the facility for administration to children in care and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that they have instituted methods to prevent the use of outdated medication. Evidence: 1. The epipens stored for potential administration to child 6 expired in January 2018. 2. The program director and administrator verified that the epipens were expired.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: The parent was notified during the inspection to obtain new epipens for use in an emergency. Staff will be reminded of procedures for checking medications for expiration dates.
