Comments:
An unannounced, mandated monitoring inspection was conducted today. The inspector arrived at 11:00 AM and departed at 12:45 PM. Fifty-six children were in care with ten staff. Morning activities, transition to outdoor play and rehearsal for the spring program were observed. A sample size of five staff records and five children's records were reviewed. There is no medication stored for potential administration to children. No children's injuries were reported. An exit meeting was conducted with the program director prior to closure of the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based upon observation, the facility has not ensured that hazardous substances are kept in locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: There was a container of hand sanitizer labeled "warning, keep out of reach of children" on top of a cabinet in room1.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: The hand sanitizer was placed in a locked cabinet during the inspection. Staff will be reminded of the policy regarding hazardous substances.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F
Description: Based upon review of the posted snack menu and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that the recommendations of the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are followed. Evidence: 1. The posted snack menu indicated that cheese crackers (Cheezits) were served as morning snack. Chess crackers represent only one food group. Two food groups are required for snack. 2. Staff verified that the children were served cheese crackers and water for snack (one food group component).

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: Two food group components will be served for snacks.
