Storage of staff purses was discussed with the Program Director. Purses must be kept in locked locations unless it can be verified that there are no potentially hazardous substances, medications, sharp items, etc. contained in the purses.
An unannounced, mandated monitoring inspection was conducted today. The inspector arrived at 9:20 AM and departed at 1:30 PM. One hundred and four children were in care with fifteen staff during the inspection. Morning activities, outdoor play and lunch service were observed. A sample size of eight staff records and eight children's records were reviewed. An exit meeting was conducted with the administrators prior to closure of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based upon observation, the facility has not ensured areas of the center are maintained to be safe. Evidence: 1. There is a metal cover on the toddler playground where erosion has exposed one corner, creating a potential tripping hazard where a child call fall and be injured on the metal corner. 2. Erosion of the soil has exposed a foot long section of concrete aggregate near the egress to the playground from the preschool classroom , creating a potential tripping hazard. 3. There is a fence picket that has become unattached, exposing three rusted nails along the bottom rail of the fence at the far end of the preschool playground. There are two nails along the bottom rail of the fencing that have popped and could snag a child. Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: 1. & 2. The groundskeeper will be contacted to rectify the situation regarding the metal cover and the exposed concrete. 3. All nails were hammered in tightly at the time of the inspection. Routine sweeps of the fencing will be conducted to ensure timely repair as needed.
