An unannounced monitoring inspection was initiated today. The physical plant, 5 children's files, children's activities, medications, emergency procedures, drills and supplies were inspected between 3:10-4:30. There were 40 children under the supervision of 4 staff. During the inspection, children were observed enjoying free play, reading books, working on homework, coloring pictures and playing outside. The interactions between the children and staff were seen to be positive and constructive in nature. Today, the children were served Cheerios and milk for snack. The Site Supervisor is certified in MAT (medication administration training). Staff files are not reviewed on site, but during an annual administrative file review. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-D Description: Based on observations, the center failed to store cleaning materials in areas physically separate from food. Evidence 1. In one of the cabinets in the storage room, there was a bottle of "Green works" cleaner next to boxes of graham crackers. Plan of Correction: The Site Supervisor moved the cleaner during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on observations, the center failed to follow all requirements regarding medications. Evidence 1. Child #6 has a ProAir inhaler at the center. The albuterol sulfate expired 11/17, but the written authorization is still current. Plan of Correction: The Site Supervisor will ask the parent for a new medication to keep at the center.
