Inspector spoke with the Administrators about the updated background check regulations during this inspection.
An unannounced monitoring inspection and facility tour was conducted from 10:35 am-12:55pm. At the time of inspectors' arrival there were 57 infant to preschool aged children in care with 8 staff members and 2 administrators. Children were observed participating in educational activities, handwashing and toileting, lunch, outdoor play and transitioning between activities. A sample of 5 children's records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Medications and injury reports were also reviewed. The areas of noncompliance were discussed with the directors during this inspection and are detailed on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation it was determined the center did not ensure that all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. There was a hole in the drywall behind the bathroom door in the hallway. 2. In the Rugrats, Pooh & Friends and Sesame Street classrooms there was peeling paint on the walls. 3. In the Sesame Street and Pooh & Friends classrooms/restrooms the cove base is separating from the walls. 4. There was peeling laminate on the cabinet door under the changing table in the Pooh & Friends classroom. 5. In the girls restroom in the Sesame Street classroom there was a protruding bolt on the base of the toilet. 6. In the boys restroom in the Sesame Street classroom there were four protruding bolt on the base of the toilets, rusting on the partition and door frames, and a 2" gap in the lid of the toilet tank. 7. On the outdoor playground there was: -Standing water and debris in the brown sand/water table -The yellow climbing portion of the stationary play equipment had visible dirt and debris on it -The Radio Flyer trike was missing the handle bar end caps -There were holes in the exterior of the building exposing Styrofoam and fiberglass. All of these areas were being utilized by children in care during this inspection and presenting potential injury hazards to the children in care. Plan of Correction: Not available online.
