63.2 Child Abuse and Neglect

Technical Assistance:
The following was discussed with the program director and assistant program director. 22VAC40-185-(6)-380-A-2-a-2 After the first 30 minutes, children not sleeping may engage in quiet activities. 22VAC40-185-(5)-350-D Requirements for doubling ratio during the designated rest period

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted to follow-up on violations cited during the last inspection. A sample of 4 children's records were reviewed. Children were observed during nap. Infants were observed being held, on the floor with staff and sleeping cribs. Toddlers were observed sleeping and during quiet time.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a record review the center did not ensure all required information was kept for each enrolled child. Evidence: Child #3 did not have the complete address of the 2 required emergency contacts.

Plan of Correction: The following response was provided by the program director during the exit interview: The director will contact the child's parent today and document it in the file.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all diapering requirements were met. Evidence: In the toddler room the staff was observed using the diaper changing table to sort individual children's diapers. Children's activities should not be done on surfaces used to change diapers.

Plan of Correction: The following response was provided by the program director during the exit interview: The director spoke with the staff during the inspection and the staff removed the clean diapers from the changing table.
