NEW PUBLIC COMMENT FORM FOR STATE BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES

The State Board of Social Services has created a new electronic State Board Comment Form to receive requests for public comment during its bi-monthly meetings. Members of the public can speak to any topic during the designated meeting time, and must adhere to time specifications established by the Board chair. Direct questions or requests for assistance to state.board@dss.virginia.gov.

Governor Northam Signs Budget Bill Expanding Eligibility for Health Care

On Thursday, June 7, 2018, Governor Ralph Northam signed the SFY 2019/2020 Budget Bill, expanding health coverage eligibility to up to 400,000 new Virginia adults. New coverage will begin early January 2019.

Initial information has been posted at www.coverva.org and will continue to be updated regularly as new details become available.

You may be eligible for a reduction in your TANF debt!

The Division of Child Support Enforcement's 2018 TANF Debt Compromise Program is now available to parents who owe TANF debt under a Virginia court or administrative order. The program is designed to encourage consistent child support payments by offering eligible parents a reduction in their TANF debt. For more information on how much you may be eligible to save, call 800-468-8894 or visit your local district office.

    Virginia Announces Top Ten Ranking Hospitals for Exceptional Paternity Establishment Rates

    The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), in conjunction with the Virginia Paternity Establishment Program (VPEP), recently announced the top ten Virginia hospitals recognized for outstanding performance in paternity establishment for 2017. Each of these hospitals accomplished paternity establishment rates greater than 80 percent.

    Cooling Assistance Applications Now Being Accepted

    Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is continuing its effort to help provide qualifying households with cooling assistance during the summer months. The application period is open and runs through Wednesday, August 15.

    In order to qualify for cooling assistance, a household must have either a child under six years of age, an individual living with a disability, or an adult age 60 or older living in the home. There is also an income requirement for cooling assistance. This year, the maximum gross monthly income, before taxes, for a one-person household is $1,316 and $2,720 for a household of four.
