April 15, 2026
Local departments of social services from all corners of the Commonwealth recognized April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, each finding meaningful ways to elevate this critical issue within their own communities. Throughout the month, staff and volunteers organized events designed to spark conversation and highlight the importance of protecting children. These efforts served as visible reminders that preventing abuse is a shared responsibility — one that requires awareness, compassion and a commitment to supporting the well‑being of every child.
Many departments also planted vibrant pinwheel gardens and encouraged staff to wear blue, both powerful symbols of hope and resilience. The pinwheels, in particular, stood as a bright and optimistic representation of the safe, healthy childhoods every young person deserves. By uniting around these symbols and activities, local departments reaffirmed their dedication to building environments where children can not only live, but truly thrive.
